Let's call this the 2020 Holiday Update

(No holiday-themed content included though)!


Hi there, I hope you all made it through the year reasonably well.

I have added a few new things this time:

  • A progression system in which you level up your rank while playing and unlock cards, ships, crew, and so on along the way.
  • Save-slots, so up to 3 people can have their own progression going without interfering with each other (Also nice to get a competition going)
  • New Cards and Crewmembers to play with
  • Some balance changes here and there (nothing too major yet)
  • And of course lots of smaller changes and improvements to the game (see full notes below)

Hopefully, these additions and changes are fun for you (if not, let me know). And as always more stuff is coming down the line.

Patchnotes:

Cards:

  • Added 11x new card + art
  • Changed Inversion card enhance level 2 and 3
  • Changed Divert Power and split it into 2 cards
  • Changed Miracle Engineer into an X-Card that draws and reduces costs

Crew:

  •  Added 7 new crewman + art
  •  Crew counters now show the max counter too

Events:

  • Events can now be nested (events with more than 1 choice)
  • Event chances for good or bad outcomes now determined by internal weights for some finetuning
  • Added 1 new event + art

Balance:

  • Organized all cards crew and cargo into a spreadsheet to get a better overview of where I need to fill holes in the card pool (many many holes still there of course)
  • Buffed Ship AI Gamma from +2 ion damage to +7 ion damage to make up for losing 1 full base energy
  • Crew disabled by Crystallus stays that way for longer now
  • Maroo now gives 2 extra charges to X-cards instead of just 1

UI:

  • Tooltip boxes look 5% better now
  • Added type highlighting of sectors to the map screen (just hover over or click the icons on the top right) for better navigation
  • Cards are now color-coded by type instead of enhancement level and the color green is gone yay
  • Slightly improved cargo handling
  • Stuff you cannot afford in the shop is now tinted red (not just the price tag as before) [might make that more pretty someday]

Polish:

  • Added a new sprite for the starting station (so it does not look like a trade station anymore)
  • Changed some sprites to make the background planets look rounder
  • Added some pitch variation for many sounds
  • Added flashing white to ships on hit
  • Planets look rounder now
  • Lasers look a little more laser-like because they glow now
  • Improved scrolling combat text
  • Improved missile effect trail
  • Improved buff/debuff bars
  • Improved background planet visuals
  • Small improvements to the top bar visuals

Other:

  • Added save slots
  • Added a 20 rank progression system, play win and rank up to unlock more cards ships and crew
  • Added 3 different game speeds, so fast players have to wait less (still a bit wonky, but working on it)

Internal:

  • Updated everything to a new Unity version
  • Now preinitializing all effects to prevent hiccups when first using them in game (somehow some hiccups still occur, but less)
  • Changed discard pile behavior to make certain cards work correctly all the time

Bugs:

  • Fixed a handful of tiny bugs
  • Fixed crew counters not being saved
  • Fixed Sgrt. Russel blinking when not shooting while you are cloaked
  • Fixed floating cargo not drawing its effect
  • Fixed a bug that made parasites steal buffs while you were cloaked
  • Fixed a bug were Lennys buff was not applied when flying to the next sector
  • Fixed a bug where Lennys ability would not trigger on the last shot of combat
  • Fixed a bug with attacks using money as fuel not using the money on the last shot of combat
  • Fixed inconsistent damage calculations, damage tooltips should now show the damage you are actually doing
  • Fixed chosing cards from discard pile while cards are still flying problem
  • Fixed a pile counters sometimes showing the wrong count
  • Fixed a bug that made unlocked stuff not show up correctly
